SUDDENLY SOUTHERN

We took advantage of our geographical location and spent a long weekend in the Smoky Mountains - what a treat! It's so beautiful, I don't know how anyone can stand living there! I'd never want to leave my porch...

We had luxurious accomodations...

Max and the mountain stream

The stream for our fresh water was just 75 yards away... the "restroom" was just a little closer!

Kidding, kidding! We stayed at a great resort with a pool, a 500 ft water slide (YES, I went down ONCE.) and our cabin was next to a pretty stream.

Sadly for Katie, no dishwasher. Max didn't seem to care.

Tony Leah Katie geo-caching

Tony and Leah taught us about geo-caching - hunting for tiny treasures hidden by other enthusiasts who leave the GPS locations on websites so you can find the treasures. It sure takes you to some interesting places you'd never see otherwise - like this hilltop cemetery.

There must be something really cool down there...

Cades Cove farmplace

We took a day trip to Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains - a secluded settlement that was once home to almost 700 people until the gov't purchased the land for the national park. These buildings and farm sites were 150 years old!

Baptist church

There are 3 churches still standing, and the former residents of Cades Cove have been buried in their cemeteries as recently as 2003.
